SENIOR INTERNSHIP

Girls Inc. of Jacksonville

If I had to choose three words to describe my experience at Girls Inc. of Jacksonville, I'd say: fun, interactive and inspiring. I have spent the last four months as a Communication Intern at a branch of one of  this country’s most impactful nonprofit organizations. I was elated to see Girls Inc. on the list of appropriate internships back when I was applying for my spring position. I knew immediately that I wanted to learn from and contribute to the Girls Inc. team because of what they do for the youth community here in Jacksonville, Florida.
My internship started during the organization’s busiest season. The staff was returning from the holiday break and preparing for two huge events, Women of Vision Celebration Luncheon and the Spring Fling: Daddy Daughter Dance, within months of each other. I played a pretty big role in helping everyone get ready for both, but I was mostly involved in the production of Celebration Luncheon. In addition to creating the press release and social media schedule, I helped the team with come up with the creative elements for the event. My supervisor, Dr. Rose, would call us in weekly for a “Development Meeting” where we would all make suggestions and offer ideas for how things should go. I ultimately was in charge of the the social media posts, press release, rolling powerpoint and decor for Celebration Luncheon.
For the Daddy Daughter Dance, I assisted with the distribution of flyers that were assigned to each school based on the number of students present. A few more of my responsibilities included data entry after this event, which required me to use Excel Spreadsheets. Because this is a female-oriented nonprofit, we participated in celebrating Women’s History Month in March. This experience was truly enjoyable!

SOCIAL MEDIA

January 2019 | National Mentoring Month

Girls Inc. of Jacksonville has an active account on all major social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I created a posting schedule and content based on the brand's need, aesthetic and current events. During January, we celebrated National Mentoring Month.

WOMEN OF VISION CELEBRATION LUNCHEON

Girls CHANGE the world!

This event was held on International Women's Day and it was a blast! I created the press release, drafted social media posts and worked during the event to register guests. I designed the rolling powerpoint and thank you notes, as well and I also assisted with creating centerpieces and other elements for the table. We set up before and cleaned up after together as a team!
